About the Collective AB

Collective AB is a forward-thinking women’s empowerment nonprofit based in Central Alberta.

It was inspired in part by the “Do You Mind Project” and developed from a deep need for engagement and a focus on values of community, connecting and calling for action. We imagine brave, colourful and healthy communities fueled by the acknowledgment of individual culture and the shared experiences of life in central Alberta.

Our mission is to provide a dynamic and inclusive space where women, femmes, and non-binary individuals can converge to connect, learn, and flourish.

We empower individuals to share their unique stories, fostering a collective framework for growth and empowerment.

Our Founders

Sadia Khan and Dieulita Datus, both women of color, decided to create an organization that reflected their long-held aspirations.

Growing up in the USA, they were unable to access any federal loans or grants due to their immigration status, preventing them from pursuing a college education. Their firsthand experiences as women of color motivated Sadia and Dieulita to take action and combat injustice in their local community of central Alberta.

The two created Ubuntu Mobilizing Central Alberta, which is the inspiration for the Collective AB Project.

Our Vision

We envision a vibrant and united community in Central Alberta, where the tapestry of women, femmes, and non-binary individuals weaves a rich narrative of empowerment, diversity, and shared growth.

Our vision is a future where every voice is not only heard but celebrated, and where the collective strength of our stories propels us towards a more inclusive and harmonious society.

Collective AB Goals

Communication

Open, honest and ongoing dialogue between; participants, residents, community leaders, municipal government and partner organizations in regards to how best to use the stories and lived experiences shared for awareness in an ethical manner.

Comprehensibility

We will connect with community  partners to ensure that they have the  knowledge and support they need for presentations and use of content to build awareness.

Community Consent

Communities will consent to using the materials in an ethical manner that recognizes the vulnerability of participants who chose to share their stories and lived experiences.

Accountability

Communities should use this framework to engage on policy changes to create braver and healthier spaces for residents to thrive. It is important that proper time is taken to  prepare those who will be engaged with this project to understand and hold their communities accountable to achieve the necessary changes and ensure that the changes are relative and sustainable.

Community Promise

The provided framework and toolkit associated with The CollectiveAB Project requires the time, effort and self reflection to ensure that the goals of the community aligns with the goals of the project which is to create equitable space, create access to services for everyone and create effective changes for braver and bolder communities. This project was built to provide awareness while honouring the lived experiences of all the participants of this project.

We strive to be the catalyst for change, fostering connections, and empowering individuals to be the architects of their own narratives.

Together, we envision a community that reflects the beauty of unity, strength, and boundless potential.
